WCA Applauds Family Care Expansion Announcement

Seven More Counties to Benefit from Program

The Wisconsin Counties Association (WCA) is applauding today’s announcement that the state’s Family Care program will be expanded to Brown, Door, Kewaunee, Shawano, Oconto, Menominee, and Marinette counties in Northeast Wisconsin.  The program has been proven both effective and cost-efficient and will provide much-needed services to local residents.

“Governor Walker’s announcement today is met with great appreciation,” said WCA Executive Director Mark D. O’Connell.  “Long-term care services critical to our state’s most vulnerable residents will soon be available without waiting lists in more counties.  WCA thanks the Governor and members of the Wisconsin State Legislature who have worked hard to expand this important program.”

Family Care provides long-term care services to the elderly and adults with developmental and physical disabilities.  The program has been expanded to additional areas of the state in recent years, replacing MA waiver programs.

Today’s announcement will provide residents in Northeast Wisconsin with access to the same services currently offered in 57 other counties across the state.  Due to the extensive planning efforts and preparation of these counties, Family Care expansion in Northeast Wisconsin should occur efficiently and smoothly.

“The seven counties included in the expansion area have worked for many years to bring Family Care to Northeast Wisconsin,” said O’Connell.  “We are grateful for the vision of the Governor and Legislature and look forward to offering Family Care in even more counties.”
