Uniquely Wisconsin Video on Kenosha Comets Wins Emmy Award

Kenosha County’s “Field of Dreams: AAGPBL 80th Reunion” Recognized

Uniquely Wisconsin has received an Emmy Award for a story featuring Kenosha County’s “Field of Dreams: All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) 80th Reunion.”

The 66th Annual Chicago/Midwest Emmy Awards, which recognized excellence within various areas of television and emerging media, was held Nov. 2 in Chicago. This is the second Emmy Award win for the Uniquely Wisconsin brand, following a win last year for their video featuring Marathon County’s “Farm to Table Pizzas: The Little Red Barn.”

“It was an honor to be nominated and to bring home the Emmy Award. Kudos to the Kenosha County team that envisioned the award-winning video, and to the Uniquely Wisconsin team whose talents made it all come to fruition,” said Kenosha County Executive Samantha Kerkman. “And of course, it couldn’t have been possible without the ladies of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League — true trailblazers whose legacy lives on today.”

The Uniquely Wisconsin brand, built upon generations of rich storytelling from Discover Wisconsin and created by Discover Mediaworks, highlights the stories of the people, the culture, and the history of our state, sprinkled in with a bit of economic development and tourism. To date, the Uniquely Wisconsin brand has reached over 15 million, engaging with viewers, listeners and web browsers.

“This Kenosha County video tells the amazing story of what makes our state so special: our people, our history and our traditions,” said Wisconsin Counties Association President & CEO Mark D. O’Connell.  “We are humbled by this Emmy win and are proud to be a part of the Uniquely Wisconsin brand.  Hats off to Kenosha County for putting forth this story idea and to the entire Discover Mediaworks team for sharing it so beautifully.”

The Kenosha County video was nominated, and won, in the category of Outstanding Achievement for Nostalgia – Short and Long Form Content.

The Kenosha County video was highlighted in a Uniquely Wisconsin broadcast episode, in a streaming docuseries, in social and digital media stories, and on the popular Discover Wisconsin podcast, “The Cabin.”

“From the very beginning, the Uniquely Wisconsin brand has been about telling the amazing stories of the people and the culture of our state,” said Washington County Executive Josh Schoemann, who was instrumental in creating the brand alongside the WCA and Discover Mediaworks. “Getting yet another Emmy win is an honor and we are grateful for the recognition and excited to continue to share so much more.”

Uniquely Wisconsin utilizes video, broadcast television, audio, podcasts, and social media to tell the stories of local communities. The stories highlight families, community groups and activities, community kindness, those in the service and hospitality industry, artists, and creators.

Counties highlighted in seasons one and two of Uniquely Wisconsin include the counties of Portage, Marathon, Adams, Rock, Sauk, Sheboygan, Monroe, Wood, Racine, Kenosha, Green Lake and Price. Counties participating in season three, being released now, include Ashland, Calumet, Jefferson, Lincoln and Oconto.

“At our foundation, we are storytellers and to be recognized at the 66th Annual Chicago/Midwest Emmy Awards is so gratifying,” said Discover Mediaworks, Inc. President & CEO Mark Rose.  “As a part of the Discover Mediaworks family of programming, the Uniquely Wisconsin brand is powerful and showcases the essence of our communities. Telling the story of Kenosha County and their Comets was an honor and to see it win the Emmy is a testament to so many people involved in the story, in the community and on our team.”
