Statement by WCA Regarding Federal Medicaid Funding

A media release by another organization was sent today regarding action at the Wisconsin Counties Association’s (WCA) Annual Business Meeting calling for enhanced federal Medicaid funding.

The Wisconsin Counties Association would like to clarify the issue:

On Sunday, September 22, 2013, WCA held their annual business meeting as a part of their annual conference in Dane County.

“Several resolutions brought forth by member counties called for the state to take action to accept enhanced federal Medicaid funding,” said Gus “Sandy” Wirth, Jr, WCA president and Ozaukee County Supervisor, who chaired Sunday’s annual business meeting. “These resolutions reiterated WCA positions dating back to 2011 regarding Medicaid eligibility for Wisconsin residents.”

Incoming WCA president and Sauk County Board Chair Marty Krueger continued, “The Wisconsin Counties Association values its relationship with members of the legislature and the governor and we look forward to continuing our work with them.”

“We do not rely on other organizations to characterize our positions for us. Funding for the Medical Assistance Program has been an issue for us for years and we will continue to advocate on behalf of Wisconsin’s counties on this matter,” said Krueger.  “Counties remain committed to working with the administration as the October 1, 2013 implementation date of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) approaches to ensure that all Wisconsin residents have a smooth transition into the new healthcare system.”

The WCA Annual Business Meeting establishes policy positions through the adoption of official resolutions. Member counties submit resolutions to be considered at the meeting. WCA steering committees review the resolutions and make recommendations to the Resolutions Committee.
