Expectation of 416-464 hours per year (to include potential for some remote work; however, you must be available for in-person clinics when scheduled and join occasional on-site meetings).

Wage: $30.94 to $34.99/hr

Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of this position is to provide nutrition education for the WIC program by determining nutrition risk, setting goals for behavior change pertaining to nutrition and breastfeeding, and developing and distributing nutrition educational materials. Additionally, this position may assist WIC participants with program requirements and benefits, coordinate appointments, and perform clinic intake.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
1. Determines participants’ WIC eligibility based on nutrition risk. Utilizing motivational interviewing (MI) and VENA philosophy, determine WIC participant nutrition and health needs. Completes and records physical assessment of client height, weight, hemoglobin and lead. Interprets growth charts and calculates gestation periods.
2. Educates on nutrition and breastfeeding using MI and VENA philosophy, to set behavior change goals. Educating may include explaining WIC program services and goals, use of benefits, and participant rights and responsibilities. Referrals made to appropriate health care providers and other services.
3. Charts results of health and nutrition assessment, education and care plans in the WIC Real-time Online Statewide Information Environment (ROSIE).
4. Provides follow-up appointments for high-risk participants.

1. Answer inquiries about the WIC program eligibility requirements; process requests for application and maintain documentation of the application process.
2. Assist with appointment reminders and missed appointments. Make or change initial and re-certification appointments. Maintain auto-dialer functions and ROSIE text reminders for WIC appointments as needed
3. Assist with intake of WIC participants and benefit issuance for WIC participants during WIC clinics as needed
4. Organize rosters for WIC clinics. Enter data into appropriate software program.
5. Assumes responsibility for own professional growth and development by pursuing education, participating in professional committees and work groups and contributing to a work environment where continual improvements in practice are pursued.
6. Attends regular staff meetings, trainings and other meetings as assigned.
7. Performs public health emergency response duties as assigned.
8. Participates as part of the Incident Command Structure in planning, training, and exercising for emergencies; includes annual respirator fit testing.
9. Works to support the mission of the department and adheres to the core values as described in the most current agency strategic plan.
10. Must be familiar with and exemplify the Wood County Core Values and serve with courtesy and respect in accordance with the Wood County Code of Conduct.
11. Responsible to know and practice the Safety Policies of the County. Perform all job tasks in a safe and prescribed manner.
12. Other duties as assigned.

​Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
Competent Professional Authority (CPA) qualifications are required for this position and include:
• Physician or nutritionist (Masters or Bachelor’s Degree in Nutritional Sciences, Community Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition or Home Economics with emphasis in Nutrition), dietitian, registered nurse, or physician’s assistant
• Completion of competency-based training program on performing duties of a CPA
• Literacy and language skills appropriate to address the needs of diverse participants

One to two years dietetic or nutition counseling experience is essential. Registered Dietitian (RDN) credentials is preferred. Possession of a valid driver’s license, as well as a licensed and insured automobile is necessary; or other means of reliable transportation immediately available to candidate.
