POSITION SUMMARY:
This is a technical field position at the Marathon County Solid Waste Department, 18500 East Hwy. 29, Ringle, WI. The employee is needed to perform duties to support the efficient, effective, and safe operation of the Marathon County Solid Waste Department, its landfills, management of ancillary structures (I.e., leachate collection structures, roads, etc.), and operation of multiple solid waste and recycling programs. Many aspects of the work are guided by the requirements of state and federal laws relating to landfill operation and the department’s plan of operation. Duties include operating heavy equipment to complete rough excavation, conduct compaction operations, cover and finish landfill to prescribed grades, and other related duties.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Related associate’s degree with course work in waste and materials management, soils, engineering, environmental science or natural resources management; and 1 years’ experience involving soils, landscaping, solid waste disposal, landfill operations, mechanical engineering, or a related field; OR equivalent combination of related education and experience. Experience operating heavy equipment required. Experience working at a landfill is preferred.

Necessary Special Qualifications: Valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets County standards. Possession of or ability to obtain a Wisconsin DNR Landfill Operator license within a reasonable time after date of hire

COMPENSATION: Starting Compensation (B22): Minimum $17.66/hr – Midpoint $20.75/hr
