Chippewa County is currently seeking candidates for Reserve Patrol Officer I or II within the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department. This position job duties include but are not limited to act as the official representative of the office of the Sheriff and accomplish the goals and mission of the Office of the Sheriff as set forth in policy and to supplement the fulltime operation of the Sheriff’s Office with primary focus on special events and recreation patrol. The fundamental duties of a deputy sheriff include serving the community; safe guard lives and property; protecting the innocent; keeping the peace; and ensuring the rights of all to liberty, equality and justice.

Reserve I
Reserve I will generally be new reserves with limited or no background in law enforcement. Usually the person would be just out of recruit school and looking to gain some experience in the profession. They would primarily work at special events such as: music festivals, air shows, fairs, house moves and Secondary Deputy for Recreation and Park Patrol.

Reserve II
Reserve II will generally perform more “law enforcement” duties such as recreation and Park Patrol as the primary Deputy responsible for the secondary Deputy. Reserve II will have more working knowledge in law enforcement than a Reserve I Deputy. The Reserve II Deputy will also be assigned for pre-planned court security, TRO Court, and Traffic Court instead of utilizing full time employees.

Minimum Qualifications: A High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Must become Law Enforcement Standards Board Certified within 12 months of hire. Reserve I – Prior Law Enforcement experience not typical or required. Reserve II – Prior Law Enforcement experience required. Must possess 30 college credits from an accredited college as defined by the U.S. Department of Education upon hire unless employed in law enforcement prior to 1993. Must posses 60 college credits within 5 years of hire from an credited college as defined by the U.S. Department of Education unless employment in law enforcement prior to 1993. Starting Wage: $21.86 – $26.67 per hour depending on qualifications. *This is a non-benefited position.
