Reporting to the Food and Nutrition Services Manager, the Registered Dietitian performs comprehensive nutrition assessments, completes MDS assessments, develops and implements nutrition care plans, and documents progress and recommendations to help residents to attain their highest practicable level of being in terms of nutrition.
Key Responsibilities:
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Prepares, monitors and evaluates nutritional assessments; serves as nutritional representative of the Interdisciplinary Team. Attends care conferences.
Coordinates and integrates clinical and administrative aspects of dietetics to provide quality nutritional care, including developing and maintaining individualized nutrition care plans for all residents. Monitors and documents progress of interventions.
Assures regulatory compliance through appropriate record keeping, charting and maintaining appropriate files to document compliance.
Serves as member of various committees pertaining to quality improvement.
Plans, develops, and coordinates reports and projects pertaining to nutrition and dietetics.
Plans, conducts, coordinates, and evaluates in-service educational programs for food service personnel, residents, facility staff, etc.
Provides knowledge and direction to staff in all households, assures that the households have needed resources (community links, materials and supplies).
Ensures that all households participate in Quality Improvement and that appropriate follow up is taken to assure quality outcomes, performs professional audits and observations to confirm the competency of all household staff.
Promotes empowerment of the team in providing resident centered care, participates in team problem solving, monitors team members performance and provides feedback through coaching and counseling.
Keeps the overall function of the household running smoothly.
Provides leadership and vision to the household by serving as a role model, collaborates with others.
Maintains a safe, comfortable and functional environment by assessing the household for potential hazards, implements practices utilizing appropriate techniques regarding sanitation, infection control, fire safety, disaster preparedness and emergency care, investigates and reports all incidents and accidents, and observes the team for safe work habits.
Maintains regular and predictable attendance, works overtime/extra hours as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Certifications/Experience Requirements:
Registered Dietitian with a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Dietetics and one to three years nutritional assessment and care planning experience required, ideally in a long-term care setting.
Registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics as an RDN
Or, any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Required or Preferred Skills:
Ability to operate a variety of office equipment including personal computer, photocopier, calculator, and fax machine. Ability to utilize Electronic Health Record software for entering and retrieving information in resident records.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, calculate decimals and percents, and make use of the principles of basic algebra and descriptive statistics.
Ability to use and interpret dietetics, and basic accounting terminology.
Ability to communicate effectively with food service staff, administrators, physicians, consultants, vendors, residents and their families, and others verbally and in writing.
Ability and willingness to offer expertise and guidance as needed and requested.
Ability to assure that federal, state and local laws as well as accepted professional standards and principles of professional organization, boards and councils are followed.
Ability to see person-centered care as an important component in providing residents with a sense of health and well being.
Ability to understand the importance of modeling positive attitudes and behaviors.
