POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Public Health Administrator, plans, implements and evaluates health education programs and resources for Public Health staff, other Health and Human Service Divisions, and the community around public health priorities. Improves individual and population health through assessment, community health planning, capacity building and program/policy implementation. Provides consultation and leadership in developing community-wide prevention programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Analyzes public health education needs in the community and collaboratively designs, implements, and evaluates educational programs at the individual and community level supporting collaboration, providing consultation and leadership, and capacity building.
• Provides effective, efficient, and appropriate public health education communications for a variety of audiences and a variety of platforms including one on one, group presentations, mass media, press releases, county website, and social media.
• Applies appropriate learning theories, evidence-based practices, and culturally sensitive practices when working with individual clients and/or groups.
• Participates in the department’s community health assessment and community health improvement plan processes by supporting data gathering, plan development, implementation, and evaluation.
• Participates in community coalitions to support assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation related to health promotion/education.
• Work to advance health equity and health in all policies into department and community planning.
• Participates in grant writing efforts to support existing and new health education efforts that align with agency and community health priorities.
• Assists with policy and procedure development and maintenance.
• Supports the health department’s strategic plan and aligns health education efforts to strategic priorities.
• Supports quality improvement, performance management, and accreditation requirements. Assists with data entry and maintenance of the performance management system.
• Assists in the development of special projects as assigned; coordinates projects to assure goals are addressed as assigned; collects data and assists in analysis and outcome evaluation.
• May serve in assigned Incident Command System role during public health emergencies. Participates in department-wide preparedness activities to include National Incident Management System (NIMS)/Incident Command System (ICS) training and exercises.
• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s degree in health education, health science, human service or communications related field.
• Two (2) years of experience in health education or a related field preferred.
• Master’s level training in a related area is a plus.
