We are hiring a PC Technician intern in IT!

Reporting to the IT Operations Manager the PC Technician will set up, configure, troubleshoot, document, and install County hardware and software. The PC Technician works directly with end users to place equipment and provide basic training while also serving as Help Desk backup.

LOCATION: 320 S. Walnut St. in downtown Appleton

HOURS: 7:30 am – 4:30 pm Monday-Friday with flexibility

Key Responsibilities:
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
*Set up equipment and install new and upgraded hardware and software.
*Assist users with problems or questions relating to computer hardware and software. Troubleshoot software/hardware issues to find root cause of problem.
*Prepare/Update training materials and documentation for departmental and internal MIS systems. Conduct training of computer users regarding the operation of computer hardware and software.
*Maintains records of the County computer/software inventory.
*Assist in testing of new hardware and software products and enhancements.
*Maintain a reasonable level of knowledge of all County systems.
*Demonstrated reliability in attendance and flexibility to work hours.
*Maintain regular and predictable attendance, work overtime/extra hours as required.

Education/Certifications/Experience Requirements:
Actively working towards an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in an IT related field.
Must be 18 years old.

Required or Preferred Skills:
Ability to operate a variety of office equipment including personal computer, printer, copier, calculator, telephone, etc.
Ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally, understanding and utilizing proper body mechanics.
Ability to use tools and other equipment required for computer hardware installation, including screwdriver, pliers, etc.
Ability to access all locations where computer equipment is located (inside squad cars, wiring closets, etc.).
Language Ability and Interpersonal Communication
Ability to comprehend and interpret a variety of documents including computer documents and graphics, log sheets, inventory reports, product literature, hardware and software manuals, trade publications, and general correspondence.
Ability to analyze and design information flow
Ability to analyze software/hardware and make recommendations
Ability to understand and interpret departmental user needs.
Ability to document/communicate technical information to non-IT people.
Ability to problem solve issues between department and IT and to resolve conflicts.
Ability to prepare a variety of documents including equipment placement and requirement reports, hardware/software documentation, and general correspondence.
Ability to use and interpret computer related terminology.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to work semi-independently making sound decisions using good judgment.
Ability to communicate effectively with County department personnel, computer users, consultants, sales representatives, outside agencies, and the general public verbally and in writing.
