Description
The purpose of the Parks Seasonal Worker is to perform clerical, customer service and maintenance tasks for the Parks service area of the Sauk County Land Resources and Environment Department. There are several vacancies. This position is extremely flexible and would start in May and typically ends in September. If there are enough hours and work remaining, a Seasonal Worker could work until November if desired. No benefits are offered with this position.

Essential Duties

Greet and direct park visitors.

Enter reservations into the computer.

Collect and record fees.

Receive and route phone calls.

Maintain trails.

Perform maintenance and repair tasks such as mowing grass, tree trimming, landscaping, snow plowing, weed picking, and trail grooming and marking.

Clean park bathrooms and other park structures.
Additional Tasks

Harvest aquatic weeds.

Assist in preparing firewood.

Assist with parking enforcement by verifying that each vehicle has the proper pass.

And other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Advisory data and information such as inspection reports, vehicle maintenance reports, inventories, payments, grant applications, various manuals, maps, aerial photos, procedures, guidelines, and routine and non-routine correspondence.

Verbally and in writing with department personnel, county personnel, environmental groups, park users, and the public.

Explain, demonstrate, and clarify to others established policies, procedures, and standards.

Computer skills, such as word processing and spreadsheets.

Adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing.

Compare, count, differentiate, measure, sort, classify, compute, tabulate, and/or categorize data and/or information.

Assemble, copy, record, and transcribe data and/or information.

Analyze data and information using established criteria to define consequences, consider, and select alternatives.

Apply functional and situational reasoning by exercising judgement, decisiveness, and creativity in everyday routine and non-routine situations.

Use fine and gross motor skills to perform tasks such as operating a motor vehicle, tractor, lawn mower, keyboard, photocopier, and mechanic tools.

Exert effort in moderate to heavy work, such as lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing, balancing, and standing for long periods of time.

Recognize and identify degrees of similarity and differences between characteristics of colors, forms, sounds, odors, textures, etc. associated with objects, materials, and ingredients.

Environment

Moderately unsafe and uncomfortable in respects to noise, temperature variations, odors, toxic agents, and dust.

Required Working Hours

Some weekend, evening and holiday shifts are required. Standard working hours vary based on the needs of the park, but are typically:

Sunday through Thursday: 7:45 AM to 4:00 PM
Friday: 9:45 AM to 6:00 PM
Saturday: 8:45 AM to 5:00 PM

Saturday working hours may occasionally be 7:45 AM to 4:00 PM and 3:00 PM to 11:15 PM if there is a building rental. Please note these hours are subject to change and additional hours may be needed or required. Compensation for additional hours beyond normal working hours are subject to applicable state and federal regulations.

The workdays and hours can be flexible and can range from full-time or part-time. The position can also range from strictly outdoor work, strictly indoor work or a mix of both. The position starts at $14 per hour, with premium pay for weekday evenings, weekend days and holidays. See below:

$2 per hour for weekday evenings
$3 per hour for weekend days
$4 per hour for holidays (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day)

Minimum Training and Education
Required: High School diploma or equivalent

Preferred: Clerical experience and outdoor yard maintenance experience

Any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
