Parks Maintenance Technician Lead
Job Summary
The Parks Lead Maintenance Technician ensures the safe, effective, and timely maintenance of Door County’s parks system by directing and overseeing daily operations, performing advanced maintenance, and leading a diverse crew of seasonal and full-time staff. This hands-on role carries out the Parks Manager plans and ensures the crew executes them properly. Supports public access, system functionality, and resource protection through field-based oversight, technical skill, and problem-solving in dynamic outdoor environments.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. Supervises, coordinates, and monitors daily assignments for full-time and limited-term Parks Division staff; collaborates with administrative staff to support scheduled park activities.
2. Supports the recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of regular and seasonal parks staff.
3. Leads preventive maintenance efforts and documents repairs in the Computerized Maintenance Management System.
4. Troubleshoots, repairs, and services mechanical systems including electric motors, plumbing components, and pneumatic fixtures.
5. Coordinates maintenance and repair activities for park grounds, buildings, equipment, and related infrastructure.
6. Operates and maintains a variety of powered equipment including tractors, skid steers, mowers, snow blowers, and boom lifts.
7. Procures repair parts and maintenance supplies cost-effectively through independent sourcing and vendor coordination, and documents supply orders.
8. Maintains accurate service and inspection records; ensures compliance with safety procedures and protocols across all operations.
9. Enforces County & Department rules and safety standards, including compliance with Chapter 12 of the Door County Code.
10. Responds to maintenance requests and emergencies via issued cell phone, including after-hours or weekend coverage as assigned.
11. Shall provide facility support and perform other duties in support of the division’s mission and public service standards.

• Collaboration: Coordinates with other County departments and stakeholders to meet operational and public access needs.
Required Education & Experience
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least one (1) year of progressive experience in park or facility maintenance, with emphasis on mechanical, plumbing, or landscaping.
• Demonstrated ability to work with tools, mechanical systems, and computer-based maintenance platforms.
• Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Education & Experience
• At least two (2) years of supervisory experience leading teams in a dynamic field or facility operations setting.
• Wisconsin CDL Class A and B endorsement or equivalent.
• Familiarity with public sector operations and customer service.
• Experience sourcing materials and managing small-scale maintenance budgets.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
Work involves standing for extended periods (approximately 50% of the time), with additional physical activity such as walking, crouching, kneeling, lifting, and handling tools or equipment. Must be able to lift and carry up to 80 lbs. and operate equipment in varied outdoor environments. Approximately 70% of duties are performed outdoors in diverse weather conditions, including exposure to extreme temperatures, humidity, noise, vibrations, and potential mechanical or chemical hazards. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as eye/ear protection, gloves, and safety harnesses are required. Occasional work at heights and in confined spaces may occur. On-call duties and emergency response availability are expected.
