PARK SUPERINTENDENT

Kenosha County Parks proudly manages eight parks with 15 miles of multi-use trails, 1,500 acres of parkland, two beaches, three dog parks, 45 holes of disc golf, the Fox River Water Trail, historically accredited mansions and cultural facilities at Kemper Center, and hosts nearly 300 events and programming annually.

The Park Superintendent is a supervisory position that is responsible for the upkeep, maintenance, and operation of all park facilities and grounds that he or she manages.

2024 Hiring Range: $67,234 – $80,040 annually

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Responsible for the regional management of numerous parks, natural areas, and multi-use trails within the Kenosha County Parks System. Operational management may include the oversight of beach operations, recreational amenities, historic facilities, playgrounds, multi-use trails, hiking trails, prairies, boat launches, pavilion rentals, large scale events, recreational programming areas, nature center facilities, and dog parks.
• Plans and supervises the maintenance and repairs to buildings within the parks.
• Performs administrative duties including payroll, budgets, equipment records, email correspondence.
• Interviews, hires, trains, guides, and motivates staff in work-related skills and customer service.
• Coordinates, partners, and guides volunteers and summer youth work programs.
• Attends seminars and classes to learn the most updated and relevant information.
• In winter months, responsible for snow and ice removal.
• Forestry, horticulture management, and plant identification.
• Performs other work as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education and Experience
• Must be at least 18 years of age at time of application
• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Three years of progressive management experience
• Five years of experience in park maintenance or related field

Preferred Education and Experience
• Associate Degree in Horticulture, Urban Forestry, Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation or related field, or equivalent experience
• 10+ years of experience in park maintenance
• 5+ years of supervisory and leadership experience

Licenses or Certifications
• Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) (Class A with no airbrake restriction) must be obtained within 6 months of employment
• Pesticide Applicator license must be obtained within 6 months of employment

OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS
• Flexible work hours with frequent weekend shifts, holidays, and on-call availability for emergency response

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• The position involves heavy physical demands, such as exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 50 pounds of force frequently
• Work involves stooping, kneeling, crouching, twisting, turning, reaching, and bending at the waist
• Indoor and outdoor work environment with exposure to weather extremes

WORK SCHEDULE
• Full time, 40 hours per week, generally Monday through Friday
• Work rotating weekends and evenings
• Typical work hours will be from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM
