Operator 2- Parts Person Highway
Purpose of Position:
This position is responsible for operating heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner. Heavy equipment may include screed, paver, front-end loaders, excavator, dozers, graders, asphalt compactors, crushing equipment, pickup sweeper, equipment mover, shouldering machine, chip spreader and other pieces of equipment.
Supplementary Description (2024):
Performs a variety of tasks assisting in the operation of the parts room in which the duties include but are not limited to the following: inventory management, maintain records and reports, dispensing of parts and supplies, answer telephone and operates two-way radio, order parts and supplies, and other work related to the operation of the parts room.
Prepares required reports and ensure proper assignment of parts charges.
Pick up parts or arrange economical freight from vendors.
Maintain parts room equipment.
Maintain and repair small tools including chainsaws, weed whips, hand tools, etc.
Serve as back-up shop foreman.
Performs related work as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of proper operation and routine maintenance of heavy-duty equipment which could be gained in 2 to 3 years of practical work experience in a highway maintenance environment. Know and observe State speed and weight limit regulations and highway laws. Knowledge of geographic locations of highways, roads, and townships within Pierce County. Valid CDL Drivers License is required.
This position is a FT 40 hours per week position. Starting Salary $25.61- $29.26 per per hour (Depending of qualifications ) plus fringe benefits.
