Maintenance Technician – Facilities
Within this position, you will perform a variety of building and grounds maintenance and custodial tasks. The Maintenance Technician also performs maintenance and repair of plumbing, ventilating and air conditioning, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, and maintenance of grounds. This position includes after-hours, on-call coverage as part of a team rotation. Regular attendance and punctuality along with being prepared to commence work at designated work locations, on the assigned or scheduled days and hours is expected. All County of Door employees are responsible for providing truthful and accurate written and verbal communications.
Work Schedule: This is a full time, non-exempt position. General work hours 7:00AM-3:30PM. Additional and on call hours as determined by Department, (rotation).
Essential Job Functions
Maintains heating equipment, piping, temperature controls, heating valves and humidifiers.
Oils and greases electric and other motors, performs minor/moderate repairs as necessary.
Maintains plumbing equipment such as pipes, valves, faucets, pumps and pneumatic sink and shower modules.
Maintains and repairs air conditioning units, chillers and compressors.
Makes minor/moderate repairs to buildings, furniture, equipment, pneumatic door closers, locks, and kitchen and laundry appliances.
Maintains and repairs electrical equipment, to include but not limited to: switches, lights, pole lights, adding new circuits/wiring, transformers, fire alarm system, emergency building generators and 911 communication tower generators.
Operates and repairs a variety of small engine equipment.
Comprehends and adheres to all safety rules, practices and procedures.
Research and locate parts at most cost-effective prices for repair and maintenance.
Monitor state of building uninterruptable power supply (UPS) systems.
Responsible for breaking down, setting up and relocating office spaces and equipment.
General Job Functions
Performs various grounds maintenance tasks to include, but not limited to: cutting grass, trimming bushes, and shoveling snow.
May perform duties of Custodian as needed.
Records maintenance logs on a variety of equipment.
Responsible for carrying pager and responding to calls as assigned.
Required Training and Experience
High School diploma or equivalent.
Three (3) or more years of progressive work experience in maintenance area with emphasis on mechanical, plumbing and electrical work.
Current valid driver’s license.
Preferred Training and Experience
Post High School coursework and/or certification in Electrical, Mechanical and Maintenance Operations systems, or equivalent combination of education preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
Knowledge of maintenance and custodial methods including the maintenance and repair of various heating, cooling, pneumatic systems and air conditioning equipment; and knowledge of carpentry, electricity, and mechanical repair.
Ability to obtain, if necessary, HVAC certification.
Ability to read, comprehend, and communicate, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to coordinate work projects with other departments.
Ability to follow safety rules and procedures.
Ability to research replacement parts and equipment through the internet.
The following list is not an exhaustive list but only provides examples of tools and equipment operated: calculator, copy machine, measuring devices, hand tools, automobile, truck, air hammer, material handling equipment, lawn mower, and snow blower/plow, tractor with loader, brush and aerial boom truck. Personal protective equipment includes but is not limited to eye and ear protection, safety harnesses, breathing apparatus and hand protection (gloves).
Ability to use tact and courtesy in maintaining an effective working relationship with department employees, county supervisors, county officials, and general public.
