The Portage County Facilities department is hiring a Maintenance Technician Specialist – Electrician to join their team!

As the county electrician, the incumbent will be required to work in all County Buildings including but not limited to, the Courthouse, Annex Building, Ruth Gilfry Building, Aging Disability Resource Center, Law Enforcement Center, Highway Department, Portage County Communication Towers Sites, Health Care Center, Solid Waste Department, Libraries, Portage County Parks Department Parks, Campgrounds and Shelter Buildings.

Starting pay is $34.22 / hr

What are the primary job duties?

BUILDING MAINTENANCE

Perform professional electrical work including installation of new electrical circuits and repair of existing circuits.
Perform all work in accordance with electrical codes, blueprints and standards.
Service, repair, troubleshoot and maintain air conditioning and heating systems.
Ability to read and understand electrical blueprints, schematics and diagrams.
Complete required documentation of repairs and service information.
Ensure adequate inventory of necessary supplies and parts.
Adjust, service, repair and maintain computer-controlled HVAC controls.
Estimate cost and materials for remodeling and repair work.
Service, repair and replace, plumbing piping and fixtures.
Service, repair, troubleshoot and replace detention equipment, including mechanical and electric locks, mechanical and electric door openers, remote indicating equipment, etc.
Service, test, repair, and maintain emergency generators at County Buildings and communication tower sites.
Service, test, troubleshoot and maintain electrical equipment including 480 volt power and 277 volt lighting.
Remodel offices including framing, drywalling, electrical installation, painting.

GROUNDS MAINTENANCE

Removing snow and ice control. Snow removal and ice control may require the use plow trucks, skid loader and tractors with blowers, sweepers, buckets, salters and hand shovels.
Perform concrete maintenance including grinding, cutting, removal and pouring of sidewalks, drives and approaches. This may include the use of jackhammers, gas-operated concrete grinders and gas-powered concrete saws.
Service and maintain snow removal and lawn care equipment.

What are the minimum requirements?

High School diploma or equivalent required, Associate Degree from a technical school in Industrial Mechanical Technology or other related skilled trade preferred.
Wisconsin Master Electrician License required.
Five years’ experience in maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds, equipment and machinery.
Valid driver’s license required.
Must pass Caregiver and FBI criminal background check which will be conducted by the Portage County Sheriff’s Department. Must not have any felony convictions.
