SUMMARY
We are seeking a qualified individual for a limited-term position to assist with specific planning projects on an as-needed basis. This opportunity is ideal for:
• A recently retired planning professional interested in contributing their expertise on a part-time basis,
• A recent graduate (or soon-to-be graduate) from a professional planning program looking to gain valuable experience and build professional relationships, or
• An independent contractor or entrepreneur in the planning field seeking project-based work with a regional planning agency.
The position will work under the supervision of agency leadership team staff, with assignments varying based on project needs. This is an excellent opportunity to apply planning expertise in a professional setting while contributing to meaningful projects.
COMPENSATION
The position may vary in duration and work hours and may be full- or part-time depending on program needs, budgets, seasonal demands, and candidate preferences. The position offers a starting hourly rate in the range of $28- $32 /hour (depending on experience and qualifications), and flexible scheduling.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES ▪ Works with counties, local municipalities and partner organizations on specific planning projects and implementation strategies including but not limited to local Comprehensive Plans and Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plans. ▪ Assists other ECWRPC staff in the development and implementation of plans and analyses. ▪ Collects and analyzes qualitative and quantitative data, and prepares analytical analyses, presentations, graphics, and reports. ▪ Conducts presentations on projects with partner organizations and at relevant public engagement settings. ▪ Coordinates and works with local, regional, state and federal agencies on economic development, transportation, water quality or other planning issues. ▪ Generates a positive image for the Commission by communicating with staff, local elected officials, and external stakeholders in a timely and efficient manner. ▪ Perform related work as required. ▪ Attend community engagement with other staff members, as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
▪ Bachelor’s degree in urban/ regional planning, geography, economics, business or a related field required and two years relevant planning or economics experience preferred. Alternatively, a Master’s degree in urban and regional planning, business or economics, or a related field and planning work experience preferred.
▪ Knowledge and experience in data analysis and cartographic principles utilizing ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online preferred.
▪ Experience in Adobe InDesign a plus.
▪ Advanced level of proficiency and previous experience in a variety of computer software applications, and Microsoft Office Suite.
▪ Experience with ArcMap, GIS applications, and Adobe InDesign a plus.
▪ Knowledge and experience with Regional Planning Commissions a plus.
▪ Knowledge of principles, methodology, practices of research and data collection.
▪ Experience and skill in public speaking and presentations.
▪ Experience in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with multiple stakeholders to facilitate partnerships.
▪ Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
▪ Self-motivated, creative, detail-oriented and energetic.
▪ Demonstrates effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
▪ Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
▪ Organized and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with excellent attention to detail.
