Job Summary
This position works at the Community Treatment Center, which services the psychiatric hospital, nursing home and outpatient clients.

Under general supervision, obtains blood samples, performs and reports a wide variety of non-CLIA certified medical laboratory tests and examinations; provides information to medical and nursing staff on the interpretation of the test results, documents all activities according to established laboratory policies and procedures. Performs in the role of testing personnel for a non-CLIA certified laboratory.

Essential Duties
Performs routine phlebotomy to obtain quality blood samples following proper procedure.

Performs routine blood and urine chemistries, hematology and special chemistries within established laboratory guidelines; prepares test samples to be sent to reference laboratory following proper procedure for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.

Performs and documents quality control measures on each test performed and ensures quality control results are within laboratory policy limits following manufacturing test guidelines and laboratory policies and procedures.

Operates, calibrates and maintains a variety of laboratory equipment with proper documentation.

Provides guidance and direction to other staff members regarding laboratory procedures.

Maintains the confidential nature of client and business information.

Follows laboratory’s established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory’s established acceptable levels of performance.

Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.

Demonstrates and documents awareness of the factors that may influence test results.

Maintains knowledge of and adheres to established safety and infection control procedures in the laboratory and the Community Treatment Center.

Maintains and follows the ordering system established in the department.
Unpacks and checks in new supplies; does routine stocking and cleanup in laboratory.

Available for casual call to meet department needs through employment position job share. Coordinates scheduled planned time-off coverage with position job share.

Attends all meetings, mandatory in-services and educational programs required or necessary to carry out the responsibilities of the position.

Completes and maintains necessary documentation according to applicable requirements, codes, and policies.

Perform related functions as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required
Education and Experience:
Previous relevant experience is preferred.
High School diploma or equivalent is required.
Graduate of approved phlebotomy training program or an accredited Medical Assistant
program preferred.

Licenses and Certifications:
American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) or equivalent preferred
