Intake Specialist – Child Support
Job Summary
Processes work lists under the general supervision of the Child Support Supervisor. Creates new files and reopens files based on public assistance, substitute care benefits, kinship care benefits, non public assistance cases, guardian ad litem cases and child support applications. Prioritizes work list items using Kids Information Data System (KIDS). Responds to inquiries as it relates to case set up of files in the Child Support Agency. Processes reports as relates to position.
Essential Duties
Identifies and corrects various interface demographic errors between Kids Information Data System (KIDS) and Client Assistance for Re-employment and Economic Support (CARES) and Wisconsin Statewide Automated Child Welfare Information System (WiSACWIS).
Closes cases on KIDS under direction of Child Support Specialist.
Analyzes and interprets information from various work lists on the KIDS system as current and correct.
Disposes events on KIDS.
Monitors cases for possible next step functions.
Intake Specialist must have the ability to define problems and must evaluate and process data in a timely manner facilitating case initiation, file preparation and file maintenance.
Makes accurate, expeditious, independent decisions regarding routine processing and scheduling or work activities as there are constant interruptions throughout the workday and priorities change rapidly.
Maintain a high level of self direction, motivation, good organizational skills, and written and oral communication.
Answers inquiries from other agencies of a general and specialized non-restricted nature or refers inquiries to proper agency or staff person.
Updates information on County mainframe computer.
Updates/queries KIDS information as necessary.
Provides answers to inquiries regarding service and functions of child support agency.
Reproduces multiple copies of work.
Conducts necessary investigation of various reports on KIDS.
Prepares case records and files.
Prepares letters and processes auto generated documents from KIDS.
Performs related functions as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Required
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma, plus two years office experience in a child support office; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of general office skills, practices, procedures and equipment.
Knowledge of legal terminology.
Knowledge of data processing, data entry, and word processing.
Knowledge of and ability to utilize a computer and the required software.
Skilled in strong organizational techniques and practices.
Skilled in telecommunication techniques and practices.
Ability to make independent decisions and meet deadlines.
Ability to perform full data entry functions at a rate of 80 net keystrokes per minute.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public.
Ability to obtain information through routine investigative procedures from other departments and data systems.
Ability to interpret complex reports from KIDS.
Ability to learn and apply the specialized knowledge and terminology of the Child Support Department.
Ability to work the required hours of the position.
