Chippewa County is accepting applications for a Mechanic II – Certified position within the Highway Department. The job duties of the Mechanic II – Certified include but are not limited to: a wide variety of mechanical duties and responsibilities; diagnose, troubleshoot, service, maintain, repair and rebuild components of cars, light and heavy trucks, truck equipment, trailers, tractors, heavy equipment and machinery. Winter maintenance activities will be required for this position.

Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or GED equivalent and a minimum of three (3) years work experience in repair and rebuilding of construction equipment and machinery required – OR – an Associates degree in Automotive, Diesel Mechanics, or in a Mechanical related program and one (1) year full-time work experience required. Class A CDL without restrictions E and L preferred and must be obtained within 6 months of hire. N-Tanker Endorsement required within 12 months from date of hire. MSHA certification for work in mines preferred, employer provided certification to be obtained within 12 months from date of hire. Industry-accredited certification(s) required in one or more of the following: engine repair, fleet heating and/or AC, brakes/air brakes, transmissions, electrical, suspension/steering, or forklift. cell phone is required. Starting Wage: $27.31 – $29.69 per hour depending on qualifications plus an excellent fringe benefit package. Maximum Wage: $35.63 per hour.
