Job Description:

Oneida County is accepting applications for Highway Operator positions with the Highway Department. This position will work out of the Rhinelander shop year round. Starting 2024 rate of $25.33 per hour plus $1.50 per hour winter maintenance pay for the months of November through March. Position includes an excellent benefit package with affordable health insurance, enrollment in the Wisconsin Retirement System and generous Paid Time Off (PTO) with the ability to carryover unused PTO hours into future years.

Highway Operator duties include performing a variety of duties with various equipment in order to repair, clear and maintain highways, roads and right-of-ways. Position uses multiple types of equipment, assists in flagging traffic and performs other manual labor tasks. Position will be required, as needed, to work nights and weekends for snow removal and storm damage cleanup; winter hours vary based on snow removal needs; overtime paid for weekend hours worked; summer hours are Monday through Thursday from 6:00AM to 4:00PM. Snow plowing experience is preferred but not required.

Qualified individuals must have:
– High school degree or equivalent
– Three years work experience in highway maintenance or closely related work.
– Applicants must have a CDL with A, B, C, and N endorsements OR the ability to apply for CDL licensing.*

*Note: For applicants that do not have a CDL but meet other qualifications, Oneida County may assist in licensing costs and pay wages while obtaining CDL licensing.
