Highway Equipment Operator
The Iowa County Highway Department is seeking applicants for a full time Equipment Operator. Primary duties include, but are not limited to operating material-handling and earth-moving equipment, drive tractor trailer, single axle, tandem, tri-axle, dump trucks, directing traffic control, and provide maintenance on state and county highways, including snow plowing.
Applicant requirements: minimum18 years of age, high school diploma/GED, and valid Commercial Driver’s License with classes A,B,C, and D, with tank vehicle endorsement N), and no air brake restrictions. Candidates must have recently demonstrated proficiency with a wide variety of road construction equipment and tools; an understanding of the machinery, methods, and operations required for road maintenance and construction activities; hands-on experience with the daily care, maintenance, and operation of road construction equipment and trucks. Preference for candidates with certificate in Heavy Equipment operation and preference for experience operating grading and excavating related equipment.
Applicants must be available on nights, holidays, and weekends during snow or other emergencies. Must be able to work 4 ten hour days/week schedule during the summer season (May thru September) when implemented. Pre-placement drug & alcohol testing required. Starting salary range is $20.86/hr. – $23.18/hr.; effective January 1, 2022 salary range is $21.49/hr. – $23.88/hr. and a generous, comprehensive benefit package.
