Position Purpose:
Perform Construction and Maintenance work on State, County, and other local roads throughout Pepin County, as well as other related work, all under the supervision of the Working Foreman. The Highway Maintenance Operator performs duties of the Maintenance Worker plus additional skills and experience for advanced heavy equipment operations and specialized road building knowledge.
Education and Experience Requirements:
• Valid Class A, B, C Commercial Driver’s License with “N” tanker endorsement
o Without E or L restrictions
• Experienced in using Heavy Equipment such as graders, pavers, bulldozers and specialized equipment
• Experienced in Roadway Maintenance and Construction
• Knowledge of roadway construction and maintenance operations.
• Knowledge of construction materials including asphalt, concrete, aggregate, culverts, signs, culverts.
• Knowledge of laws and procedures for hauling materials and equipment
• Ability to utilize resources such as MUTCD, Highway Maintenance Manual, Work Zone Safety Manual and county policies
• Knowledge and ability of safe operation of heavy-duty trucks and equipment
• Ability to safely operate a variety of hand tools such as chainsaws, shovels, drills, wrenches, hammers, brooms, etc.
• Knowledge of operation and maintenance of assigned equipment and machinery
• Advanced knowledge of road maintenance and construction techniques

The 2026 Wage scale for this position is: $27.51 – $35.38 per hour. Scheduled for 40 hours per week, Monday – Thursday, with full benefit package including Wisconsin Retirement.
