Job Description:

The primary function of the County Treasurer office is the tax collections and tax settlements of the 22 municipalities, importing payments from various municipalities and mortgage companies using various specialized tax collection software. Duties with this position include preparation of reports for state and local government entities. Performing accounting duties such as daily and month-end verification and balancing of accounts, timely calculation and transfer amounts of money/funds, and to assist the Department Supervisor with more complex functions. The work is performed under the direction of the County Treasurer.

Essential Duties
The following duties are normal for this classification. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Recording tax collections, collecting payments at the counter, mail and electronic importing of payments. Overtime is often required to complete this in a timely manner. Maintain and update accounting records, including bank reconciliation, journal entries to record wire transfers, deposits and payments, transfer monies and entering adjustments in accounting system. Assist with the tax deed process by following state statutes. Balance cash drawers and receipts for bank deposits to the Treasurer. Obtain information online daily for current banking transactions; retrieving electronic statements and bank reconciliation. Prepare spreadsheets analysis and generate reports to verify account balances for audit, banking, investments and any other financial reports required. Assist in preparing department budget. Assist taxpayers in a professional and friendly manner; with any questions they may have or information they request. Generate payment authorizations and create vendors; respond to any inquiries of payments; mail out and/or transmit any ACH payments. Perform other general office duties including waiting on customers, answering phones, ordering office supplies, filing reports electronically and organizing electronic files. Requires some overtime especially during the two tax collection periods at the discretion of the department head. Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent, and two year vocational/technical training bookkeeping/accounting required with two years of account/bookkeeping experience. Any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Word and Excel Spreadsheets. Knowledge of land descriptions helpful.

Position has based on a 37.5 hour work week/ 2023 Grade order; Grade H; Step 1; $21.92 Hourly
