The Financial Operations Analyst position offers a unique opportunity to support the financial management of county government operations through budgeting, accounting, payroll administration, and administrative analysis. This position requires a strong commitment to public service and financial integrity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Take primary responsibility for the accurate and timely processing of county payroll, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, collective bargaining agreements, and county policies.
Assist in preparing, monitoring, and analyzing Vernon County departmental budgets to ensure fiscal responsibility and alignment with county and state regulations.
Process and reconcile financial transactions, including invoices, payments, and journal entries, following governmental accounting standards.
Support month-end and year-end financial closing processes, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial data.
Conduct variance analysis and generate reports to identify budget trends, risks, and opportunities for improved financial management.
Collaborate with county departments to provide financial insight for operational and administrative decision-making.
Maintain organized financial records and assist in audit preparation and documentation.
Support the development and implementation of internal controls, financial policies, and best practices across county operations.
Participate in financial process improvement initiatives and modernization projects.

Education and Training Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance preferred, associate degree in business management or equivalent college courses or work experience with knowledge of basic accounting techniques; Supplemented by two years of general office experience; or any acceptable equivalent combination of training and experience. Prior payroll experience is required.
Must have valid Wisconsin driver’s license and reliable transportation with adequate auto insurance to meet minimum County requirements or access to reliable transportation for city and rural travel.
