Job Title:               Finance Director
Hours:         Regular Full-time/40 hours per week; Monday-Friday
Pay Range:            $38.33/hour; plus, longevity, if applicable
Department:          Lafayette County Finance Department
Reports to:            Finance Committee
FLSA                    Exempt
Position Purpose:    Reporting to the Finance Committee, the Finance Director is responsible for directing the fiscal functions of the County in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and other regulatory and advisory organizations and in accordance with financial management techniques and practices appropriate within the industry.

Education and/or Experience Qualification:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field plus 4 years of related experience, or 7 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Essential Functions:
• Lead, plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the County’s overall fiscal  functions, planning and performance 
• Develop credibility for the finance group by providing timely and accurate analysis of  budgets, financial reports and financial trends in order to assist the County Board and  Department Heads in performing their responsibilities 
Coordinate and facilitate the preparation for all annual audits  
• Supervise all Finance and Accounts Payable functions and staff throughout the County ? Provide financial advice and knowledge to others within the County to best positon the  County to succeed 
• Lead the Finance Committee and County Department Heads in the preparation of the  annual $50 million budget 
• Evaluate and advise on the impact of long-range planning, introduction of new programs/strategies and regulatory action 
• Maintain all official accounting records in conformance with generally accepted  accounting principles (GAAP), GASB, and retention policies 
• Advise and plan debt management to ensure the most efficient use of the County’s capacity of borrowed funds and tax payer levy 
• Supervise and train assigned personnel to ensure development of their full work  potential 
• Provide support to the Human Resources department with payroll, insurance, benefit  planning, and all other fiscal matters 
• Provide additional county wide supervision and direction to support the overall  management needs of the County 
• Maintain respectful, positive working relationships with Finance Department, County committees and County personnel 
• Perform related work as required

Supervisory Responsibilities:
• This position is responsible for the direct supervision of the Finance Manager in the Finance Department.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
• Requires lifting and or moving up to 10 pounds; requires sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, walking, grasping, speaking, hearing.
• Vision abilities required by this position include close, distance and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Work environment is in an office setting.
