Environmental Health Specialist
Are you self-driven, organized, and have an interest in environmental health? If so, Monroe County’s Health Department might have the job for you! We are hiring for a full-time Environmental Health Specialist. Successful candidates will have a valid driver’s license with reliable transportation and sufficient liability insurance. Must hold a valid Wisconsin registered sanitarian or REHS/RS credential or hold a RS-In Training credential. Candidates who would be RS-eligible within two years of hire and meet one of the following may also be considered:
1) Bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental health.
2) Bachelor’s degree or higher in physical or biological sciences and completing at least 30 semester or 45 quarter-hour academic credits in environmental, physical, biological, chemical, or environmental health courses, and have 2 or more years of full-time paid experience working in environmental health.
Our Environmental Health Specialist assists with the day-to-day operations of the Environmental Health program and will promote and monitor individual, environmental, and population health programs and contracts. This position will assist in the enforcement of food & health safety laws, administrative codes, regulations, and standards governing retail food and recreational licensing programs under the authority of Wisconsin Statues. This work involves conducting required inspections, surveys, water sampling and/or audits to ensure compliance of existing local and state public health and environmental codes, regulations and policies. This position will also provide health education and technical assistance to individuals and/or groups regarding compliance, and will investigate complaints regarding environmental health problems and hazards.
