Wage: $23.74 – $26.86/hr
GENERAL FUNCTION
The Family/Paternity Court Clerk maintains an accurate record of court events and filings, a vital link between the public and the court system, and a vital link between the various offices of the court system. The Family/Paternity Clerk oversees the entire family and paternity process from the filing of cases through post-judgment matters after disposition.
RESPONSIBILITIES
A. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Timely filing of all Family and Paternity cases and documentation. Includes assisting the public in pro se filing, explain the process and scheduling of court hearing dates. Responsible for docketing, filing and distribution of all documentation pertaining to family and paternity cases, whether pre-judgment or post-judgment proceedings.
2. Obtain appropriate signatures when required on orders, schedule pre-judgment and post-judgment hearings and timely process all documentation which is forwarded for the Family Court Commissioner or Judge.
3. Provide documentation to the Child Support Agency in a timely manner pursuant to the Standard Cooperative Agreement.
4. Accurate entry of judgments, dismissals and satisfactions. Attention to detail in the parties, amounts and costs must be paid.
5. Schedule and clerk all Family Court Commissioner hearings related to family and paternity cases, as well as restraining orders and notify parties of future court dates and maintain an accurate record of the proceedings which took place.
5. Clerk in court as needed to back up court clerks.
6. Backup to Small Claims/Civil clerk and Traffic/Information clerk as needed.
7. Responsible to know and practice the Safety policies of the County. Perform all job tasks in a safe and prescribed manner.
8. Must be familiar with and exemplify the Wood County Core Values and serve with courtesy and respect in accordance with the Wood County Code of Conduct.
B. OTHER DUTIES
1. File and scan all documents.
2. Prepare and cancel warrants.
3. Assist all general public in a pleasant and professional manner.
4. Process Family and Paternity exhibits for retention or disposal.
5. Perform other duties as may be assigned.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, QUALIFICATIONS
High school graduate; or equivalent, with a legal or management certificate with one (1) year legal experience or three (3) years legal experience. Further requirements include typing skills of 50 wpm; working knowledge of computers (Word software) and the ability to learn and utilize in-house computer programs and any upgrades. Accuracy and attention to detail, as well as excellent organizational skills are a must. Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment. Ability to communicate effectively with fellow employees and the general public. Basic everyday living skills are needed, as is the ability to read, write, add, and subtract is necessary for maintaining court documents and related matters.
