PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Under the direct supervision of the Land Management Director, the County Conservationist is responsible for supervisory work directing the operations of land conservation staff. Organizes and directs the day-to-day operations of the Land Water Conservation Team and coordinates workflow. This position is responsible for the administration of state and local land conservation programs including enforcement of agricultural ordinances, administering and enforcement of non-Metallic, metallic mining and reclamation ordinances.
Bachelor degree in Conservation, Agriculture, Soil Science or related field and two years conservation practice management experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities. Agriculture Engineering Practitioner certification required within 12 months of hire. Certified Soil Tester, Private Onsite Waste Treatment System Licenses and DNR County Well Delegation Certificate preferred. A valid motor vehicle operator’s license required. Ability to supervise employees.
COMPENSATION / BENEFITS:
The 2022 annual salary for this full-time (80 hours bi-weekly), exempt position is $61,817 to $79,476 (step 16). The expected starting annual salary is $61,817 to $70,636 (step 6), depending upon qualifications. Trempealeau County’s compensation plan considers annual wage step increases.
