Oconto County, Wisconsin seeks a dynamic and proven leader to succeed its current County Administrator who is retiring after a lengthy career with the County. Located on the western shore of Green Bay in northeast Wisconsin, Oconto County boasts year-round recreational activities on its numerous lakes, streams and thousands of acres of forests. Its proximity to U.S. Highway 41 provides easy access to the metropolitan areas of Green Bay, Oshkosh, and the Fox Valley. The County seat is the City of Oconto (population 4,609). Residents of the county enjoy a high quality of life in many small communities with rich histories, quiet and safe neighborhoods featuring a range of housing options, natural areas, agricultural areas, destination lakes, outstanding school districts, growing businesses and job opportunities.

The salary range is $116-124K DOQ, plus excellent benefits. The County is fiscally sound, with low debt and healthy reserves. A $46.7 M total annual (expense) budget supports 277 full-time equivalent employees. The County Administrator is the County’s chief administrative officer and carries out the duties and responsibilities set forth in section 59.18 of the Wisconsin Statutes. Immediate priorities for the new County Administrator include:

• Overseeing construction of a $5.6 M public safety communications project involving numerous stakeholders.
• Ensuring successful completion of the construction of a new facility to house the county’s “New Beginnings” retail store and training center located on the same campus as the “New View Industries” community rehabilitation program, located in Gillett, Wisconsin.
• Maintaining the county’s strong financial position in light of strict statutory levy limits.
• Implementing changes to the County’s compensation plan including a pay-for-performance system.

Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in public or business administration or related field; prefer Master’s degree with at least six years of progressively responsible administrative and leadership experience in a County or municipal organization(s). ICMA-CM certification a plus. Desire a strong background in budget development/long term-financial planning capital improvement planning and execution and strategic planning. The County Administrator serves as the risk manager for the county. The successful candidate should be a team builder, possess open and positive communication skills and have a collaborative leadership style. Integrity and a strong work ethic are essential.
