Summary:

A Communications Deputy operates the 911 system, assigns law enforcement and other emergency services providers to calls for service, and communicates the important public safety information to emergency responders and the public. The safety of Burnett County begins in the 911 Communications Center.

Essential Functions of the Position:

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be required and assigned.

*Uses a computer aided dispatch system, receives emergency and non-emergency calls for service from the public requesting police, fire, emergency medical or other service; determines nature and location of emergency, determine priorities, and dispatches necessary emergency units in accordance with established procedures.
Transmits and receives messages to and from law/fire/ems agencies via public safety radios, 9-1-1 emergency telephone lines, data terminals and other communications equipment; relays pertinent information to law enforcement officers and emergency services.
*Maintains contact with callers when required. Provide scene safety instructions to callers who are involved in high risk situations until first responders or law enforcement officers are on scene.
*Monitors incoming messages via data terminals and relays information as required.
*Maintain knowledge of county geography and jurisdictions
*Creates and maintain accurate records providing documentation for all events and occurrences within the Communications Center.
*Performs inquiries and criminal history checks for multiple law enforcement staff through NCIC and NCJIS systems; for wanted and missing persons, stolen property and restraining orders. Must be able to read and interpret the returned information and relay back to officer making request.
*Performs inquiries, entries, updates, cancellations and validations of all wanted and missing person records, stolen items and retraining orders as required by CIB and NCIC policy and procedure.
*Provides needed backup to other staff members during periods of absence and during peak workloads as directed.
*Other duties as assigned.
