BACKGROUND
The East Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (ECWRPC) is looking for an energetic and dynamic professional to join its Transportation program. The Transportation program focuses on Transit, Bicycle and Pedestrian, and Transportation Improvement Program planning.
ECWRPC is designated as the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Appleton (Fox Cities) and Oshkosh Urbanized Areas and serves as staff for the Fond du Lac MPO. ECWRPC staff also works with rural counties and communities to assist with local and regional transportation planning.
SUMMARY
This newly created administrative position will play an essential, coordinating role to support the work of the East Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission. This role involves preparing agendas and taking notes at meetings to archive proceedings. This role also involves creating social media and marketing materials related to public involvement strategies for Commission’s planning processes in particular the Transportation Program. The Communications Coordinator will work under the supervision of the Executive and Deputy Directors.
ANNUAL SALARY
The position is 20 hours/week and offers a starting hourly rate in the range of $28 – $32/hour (depending on experience and qualifications), and flexible scheduling.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES ▪ Coordinates with staff to produce meeting agendas and meeting materials for the Technical Advisory Committees and Policy Boards of three metropolitan planning organizations (MPO) (Appleton (Fox Cities), Oshkosh, and Fond du Lac) ▪ Prepares all MPO meeting minutes, coordinates meeting schedules, and handles all other MPO administrative items.

▪ Creatively develops professional oral and written communications, including community engagement materials and activities, brochures, newsletters, posters, and other communications using a variety of software programs. ▪ Creates and maintains Commission social media content. ▪ Assist staff in developing and implementing equitable and tailored outreach strategies as described in the MPO Public Participation Plan and ECWRPC Equitable Engagement Toolkit and Guidebook. ▪ Generates a positive image for the Commission by communicating with staff, MPO officials, and external stakeholders in a timely and efficient manner. ▪ Work closely with agency leadership and staff to develop and implement effective communication activities and public engagement programs that create opportunities for enhanced public participation in planning processes. ▪ Perform related work as required. ▪ Adobe graphic design – proofing documents; review of documents ▪ Managing contact lists and sending out meeting invites ▪ Attend community engagement with other staff members ▪ Researching events, managing the calendar
QUALIFICATIONS ▪ Associate’s degree in Communications, Visual Communications, Event Planning, Business, Marketing, Public/Community Relations, Journalism, Urban Planning, Geography, Landscape Architecture, Community Organizing, Non-profit Development, Public Administration, Education, Graphic Design or other related field. Plus, two (2) years of professional experience in the development and maintenance of website and social media content, including graphics work. OR ▪ Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Communications, Visual Communications, Event Planning, Business, Marketing, Public/Community Relations, Journalism, Urban Planning, Geography, Landscape Architecture, Community Organizing, Non-profit Development, Public Administration, Education, Graphic Design or other related field. ▪ Experience in a variety of computer software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.
▪ Strong communication skills, including verbal and written communication.
▪ Organized and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with excellent attention to detail.
▪ Experience in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with multiple stakeholders, with an emphasis in equity, transparency, and clarity. ▪ Promotional, marketing, advertising, public relations, and journalist theories, techniques and practices. ▪ Practices and procedures relating to the establishment and oversight of event production, and public and media relations. ▪ Print, digital media, and broadcast media principles and practices. ▪ Graphic design for print and web, and current computer-based graphic design software, including Adobe Creative Suite. Publication layout software, including InDesign.
▪ Knowledge and experience with transportation planning and transportation projects is a plus.
