Job Summary
Performs varied and increasingly responsible clerical and typist work calling for independent judgement, initiative and specialized knowledge in carrying out established procedures or applying laws or regulations. Responsible for conducting transactions with the public with matters requiring interpretation and analysis of laws, rules, and/or departmental policies and procedures.

Essential Duties
Assist the Judicial Assistants with daily court activities which may include preparation of weekly court calendars, coordinating Zoom appearances with the Brown County Jail and the Department of Corrections

Assist in file preparation and/or scanning of paper files to electronic files.

Preparation of court orders and mailing monthly brochures.

Assist with the assembly of jury panels and jury trials as needed.

Assist witnesses, litigants, and the public by answering questions about court procedures.

Additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required
High School Diploma including or supplemented by a course in typing plus two years experience as a Clerk/Typist I in the department assigned or two years in a similar position; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of legal documents, court forms and legal terminology.

Knowledge of English grammar and spelling.

Knowledge of general office procedures.

Knowledge of court procedures and proceedings.

Knowledge and ability to use a computer and required software.

Ability to learn and apply specialized knowledge and skills in the department.

Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Ability to take direction but work independently on assigned projects.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public.

Ability to work the required hours of the position, overtime and extra hours when court hearings extend after normal work hours.

Ability to organize and prioritize workload and adjust accordingly as more items are added.

Ability to maintain a professional business attire when assigned to work on the courtroom.

Ability to keep a neutral attitude towards all parties.
