Job Summary
Performs receptionist and/or counter duties. Performs varied and increasingly responsible clerical and typing work of a routine nature. Responsible for conducting transactions with the public.
Essential Duties
Performs receptionist and/or counter duties answering inquiries of a general nonrestricted nature or refers inquiries to proper official or department.

Acknowledges and greets individuals as they arrive in the Child Support Office; handles incoming telephone calls as necessary; takes and/or relays messages to proper staff.

Sorts and distributes all incoming mail, faxes and other correspondence.

Serves legal papers to clients within the confines of the office.

Notarizes documents upon request.

Reproduces multiple copies of work.

Updates and verifies information on the Kids Information Data System (KIDS) system.

Receives payments and issues receipts. Maintains log of transactions.

Checks obituaries.

Reviews lockup list and notifies staff of findings.

Maintains interview room calendars. Enters privacy protection into KIDS.

Disposition events in KIDS.

Performs backup duties for the Clerk I (File Clerk).

Performs related functions as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma including or supplemented by a course in typing; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Bilingual Spanish speaking abilities preferred.

Knowledge of general office procedures.

Knowledge of business English and spelling.

Knowledge of and ability to utilize a computer and the required software.

Knowledge of assigned department operations, organization, terminology, policies, procedures or ability to acquire such knowledge within a reasonable period of training.

Ability to speak English fluently and communicate effectively.

Ability to communicate effectively in writing in English.

Ability to follow simple written and oral instructions.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Ability to operate a variety of standard office equipment.

Ability to type at a minimum rate of 40 net words per minute.

Ability to accept responsibility and exercise independent judgement.

Ability to establish and maintain effective public and working relationships.

Ability to work the required hours of the position.
