General Summary
This position is responsible for administration and provision of library services that are offered at library branches in Door County. Performs professional library services, which include selection of materials, programming and record keeping. Regular attendance and punctuality along with being prepared to commence work at designated work locations, on the assigned or scheduled days and hours is expected. Responsible for providing truthful and accurate written and verbal communications.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essentials Job Functions
1. Provides front-line customer service to Door County Library patrons.
2. Registers new library users and issues library cards.
3. Performs reference and reader’s advisory functions, assists customers with use of library resources, including e-resources.
4. Collects and records fines, fees, donations and grants.
5. Checks in and out library materials of all types.
6. Handles in-system and out-of-system interlibrary loan requests to and from the library.
7. Retrieves items from the shelf and routes them to other libraries.
8. Trains and schedules Circulation Assistants.
9. Maintains collection by selecting new materials, weeding, and discarding obsolete materials and keeping the collection in an orderly, organized manner. Includes shelving and creating materials
displays
10. Plans, organizes, presents, and evaluates programs for children and adults.
11. Administers branch library budget for programming and materials including library donations and grants.
12. Makes budget recommendations to library director and village for equipment and capital needs.
13. Communicates local issues concerning building, hours or program needs to Library Director and represents Door County Library at local events and on local advisory committees.
14. Prepares statistics and required reports for the Library Director.
15. Participates in staff meetings, workshops, and conferences.
16. Coordinates with Community Relations Library Assistant to publicize library services to the branch service area.

Requirements

Required Training and Experience
1. Bachelor’s Degree or combination of training and experience.
2. One (1) or more years of work experience serving the public.
3. One (1) or more years of experience in school and/or community activities.
4. One (1) or more years of experience in library methods and procedures.
5. Current valid driver’s license.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
1. Knowledge of general office procedures and practices.
2. Skill in the use and operation of a personal computer. Knowledge of Microsoft Office© software and library software preferred. Skill in using/instructing tablets and reading devices.
3. Ability to deal with staff and the public in a courteous manner; ability to make decisions of other than routine nature in order to manage challenging conditions; neat personal appearance; and courteous manner.
4. Ability to work without direct supervision.
5. Ability to read, comprehend, and communicate, both verbally and in writing.
6. Ability to use tact and courtesy in maintaining an effective working relationship with department employees, county supervisors, county officials, and general public.

Physical & Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to be stationary; use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to stand; move; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25lbs and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision.

Nearly 75 % of time work is performed in a normal office setting with little or no discomfort from temperature, dust or noise. Interacting with other employees, general public, whether in person or on the telephone is continuously encountered.

Nearly 50% of work is performed stationary at a desk, working on a computer keyboard and/or telephone with about 15% of work performed moving. Over 75% of the work is performed by conversing and communicating, observing both near and far. Occasional moving is required up to 40 lbs. (i.e. paper and equipment). Occasional pushing and pulling of objects weighing up to 60 – 80lbs on wheels. Overseeing or presenting programs and events outdoors may occur.

In an effort to provide for continuity of County government and to cope with the problems of the emergency, you may be required to work during a proclaimed state of emergency, consistent with Sec. 323.14, Wis. Stats. and County emergency management plans and programs.
