Assistant Veterans Service Officer
Do you have passion for and commitment to serving and assisting our county’s veterans? If so, the Monroe County Veterans Service Office may have the job for you. We’re seeking a dedicated individual to fill a full-time Assistant Veterans Service Officer position. Successful candidates will be a Wisconsin resident who has served on active duty under honorable conditions in the US Armed Forces and meet the conditions outlined by state statute subchapter VIII 45.80(7)(b). Have one to two years of education beyond high school, and prefer five years related interviewing experience, including responsible clerical experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired. Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation is required. Prior work with military veterans would be beneficial.
Our Assistant Veterans Service Officer assists, interviews, and counsels veterans and their dependents in finalizing applications for entitlements for state and federal benefits. This role assists veterans and families dealing with sensitive issues of mental illness, substance abuse, post-traumatic-stress disorder, and bereavement. This position will also assist with applying for and submitting applications for Assistance for Needy Veterans Grants.
