Do you have critical thinking skills with strong attention to detail and have an interest in investigating sudden and unnatural deaths? If so, Monroe County’s Medical Examiner office might have the job for you! We’re hiring for (on-call) Assistant Medical Examiners. Successful candidates will have two years accredited post high school education in nursing, medical terminology, chemistry, biology, pre-med, criminal justice, police science, or closely related field. A minimum of two years’ experience in prior mentioned field is desired. Must possess a valid Wisconsin driver’s license.

Our Assistant Medical Examiner will conduct investigations of all deaths of unusual or violent nature, or in cases where no physician was in attendance within 30 days preceding the death. The Assistant Medical Examiner will work with the County Medical Examiner to provide 24 hour availability to respond to death calls to observe the death scene, question witnesses, and examine evidence to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident. This position may also testify as an expert witness concerning the facts and conclusions disclosed by autopsies, physical exam, and other tests.

Starting salary for this position can be further discussed upon invitation to interview.
