Aquatic Invasive Species Program Assistant LTE
Oneida County is accepting applications to fill a LTE (Limited Term Employment) position as an Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Program Assistant with Oneida County Land & Water Conservation. This position will provide valuable experience in the area of AIS fieldwork, education, and outreach! This position will assist the AIS Coordinator with countywide AIS education, prevention, monitoring, management, control, and outreach activities that protect and enhance our beautiful water resources for today and future generations!
The AIS Program Assistant LTE position is based upon a 40-hour a week schedule, working in the months of May and June and pays $16.00 per hour. May be required to work an occasional evening and weekend.
AIS Program Assistant responsibilities include, but are not limited to: watercraft inspections, water quality monitoring, aquatic plant identification, purple loosestrife biocontrol, and AIS prevention, monitoring, sampling, removal, management and control; habitat enhancement/restoration; GPS data collection, mapping, and reporting. Assist with AIS education, outreach, workshops, trainings, and campaigns. Develop and distribute outreach material, update website, write articles, and report on activities. Maintain, prepare, and decontaminate field equipment, supplies and gear.
Qualified individuals must be 18 or older, have a high school degree or equivalent, and a valid WI driver’s license. A reliable vehicle and proof of vehicle insurance is required. Mileage reimbursement is provided. Must be comfortable conducting fieldwork in a wide range of aquatic habitats and terrain, in variable weather conditions, and in various watercrafts. Must be able to work with a team and independently; have excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively and courteously with the public and coworkers in a friendly, positive manner; good work ethic, flexible and make good independent decisions based on practices, rules, and procedures. Prior experience with AIS or aquatic plant identification is preferred, but not necessary. Excellent training is provided.
