Wage: $23.74 to $26.86/hr
Wage as of 7/1/26: $24.21 to $27.40/hr
CURRENT OPPORTUNITY TO JOIN OUR TEAM:
The Wood County Human Services Department, has a full-time opening for an Accounting Assistant position. The primary responsibilities are set forth below. The work is performed under the immediate direction of the Administrative Services Assistant Manager with additional oversight.
GENERAL FUNCTION
Responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger journal entries, compiling information to complete various reports and monthly reconciliation of various general ledger accounts, and state reports. Works closely with the Administrative Services Assistant Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES
A. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Utilize Excel, Word and other agency software to create and maintain personal computer programs, reports, and processes required by the Department.
2. Enter prepared journal entries to the county’s General Ledger for Human Services Community Operations.
3. Prepare and enter approved vouchers for payment into the Accounts Payable system for weekly payments to department vendors, ensuring proper documentation provided and preparation of vendor set up.
4. Reconcile general ledger accounts monthly and maintain tracking reports for the various accounts and processes.
5. Review and Process monthly Revenue and Adjustment Integrations between Department Electronic Health Records Software and General Ledger.
6. Review payroll reports entries to General Ledger for accuracy.
7. Enter cash receipts into the County’s General Ledger for Human Services Community operations.
8. Assist in preparing monthly and annual reports mandated by the state and local government agencies.
9. Create and maintain job processes as necessary.
10. Responsible to know and practice the Safety policies of the County. Perform all job tasks in a safe and prescribed manner.
11. Must be familiar with and exemplify the Wood County Core Values and serve with courtesy and respect in accordance with the Wood County Code of Conduct.
B. OTHER JOB DUTIES
1. Assist in data entry to the annual operating budget.
2. Assist and prepare year-end work papers as assigned for various Community Operations.
3. Participate in cross training for Human Services programs as assigned.
4. Provide customer service and reception coverage as assigned.
5. Any other duties, as may be assigned.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, QUALIFICATIONS
An Associate Degree in Accounting or Business-related field. Two to three years of bookkeeping experience desired. Knowledge of and proficient skill with Excel spreadsheets is required. Familiarity with General Ledger software and the public sector is a plus. Ability to work under pressure, independently, and pay attention to detail is required. Basic everyday living skills are needed, as is the ability to understand and follow oral and written directions. Reading, writing, adding, and subtracting is needed for maintaining and creating various reports, data entry and general bookkeeping. Ability to maintain confidentiality is critical.
