Job Title: Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) / ER Registration
Reports to: Registered Nurse, Nurse Technician II, Nurse Manager
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Educational Requirements:
• High School diploma or equivalent

Position Summary:
• Responsible for unit-phone management incoming and outgoing, registration of patients in Emergency
Room and Urgent Care, and the patient and visitor flow within the unit.
• Documentation in electronic health record and form completion – registration, admissions, discharges, transfers, pre/post-procedure and as directed.
• Assist with external transfers and as directed by the Registered Nurse (RN) and Provider.
• Assist RN, nursing assistant, provider and nurse manager with the flow of clerical information internally and externally.
• Assist with QA Studies, form development and monthly statistics as they apply to the registration and admissions area
• Perform miscellaneous office responsibilities such as typing, filing, copying, faxing, and any other duties as needed.

• Proficient in Electronic Health Record System.
• Responsible for the monitoring of security cameras.
• Proficient in the coordination of flow of ER patients from admission to discharge.
• Proficient in admission procedures
• Proficient in surgical preparations procedures
• Proficient in post-operative procedures
• Proficient in order review
• Proficient in transfer procedures
• Proficient in the performance of routine Unit Coordinator tasks
• Proficient in Computer skills.
• Ability to create an environment that fosters professional behavior
• Other duties as deemed appropriate and assigned
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast paced environment and adapt to changes as they occur.
Physical Demands
• Full range of body motion and dexterity to allow for the significant handling, transferring, pushing/pulling, and lifting of materials and equipment.
• Ability to lift, carry, push or pull up to 50 pounds
• Ability to demonstrate independent mobility
• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time

discrimination.

Employee Responsibility in an Emergency:
As an employee of Lafayette Hospital and Clinics, you are expected to respond to emergencies involving the safety of patients, other employees, visitors and the facility. This includes the ability to assist with a possible evacuation of facility if that has been deemed necessary.
