Driver (Health & Human Services)
What to Expect:
Provide safe, reliable, and courteous transportation for elderly individuals, people with disabilities, and veterans. This position plays a crucial role in supporting the independence and well-being of our community members by ensuring they have access to essential services and appointments. The Driver will be responsible for operating vehicles to transport clients to various destinations.
This is a project position which may sunset at the end of 2026.
Essential Duties
Drive clients to and from their destinations in a safe, timely, and courteous manner.
Provide assistance to clients with boarding and de-boarding as needed, including those who may require additional support due to mobility limitations.
Follow scheduled routes and be flexible with adjustments when necessary to accommodate the needs of clients.
Perform routine checks on vehicle condition, fuel levels, and cleanliness; report any maintenance needs to the program coordinator.
Accurately log trips, mileage, client information, and other relevant data for reporting and billing purposes.
Be prepared to respond appropriately to emergencies and report incidents immediately following organizational protocols.
Maintain confidentiality related to client information and any medical records.
Qualifications
Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
Ability to provide proof of current vehicle insurance policy.
Strong Communication Skills: Able to interact with clients, families, and staff in a respectful, patient, and supportive manner.
Ability to assist passengers safely, lift or maneuver mobility devices if needed, and perform light vehicle maintenance checks.
Ability to drive a van safely and appropriately.
Ability to establish effective professional relationships with clients, co-workers, and management.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports directly to Elder Services Supervisor and has a close working relationship with Service Coordinator. Has frequent contact with the general public and other County employees. No direct subordinates.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to frequently lift up to 20 pounds, but must be capable of lifting 50 pounds.
Risk of blood borne pathogen exposure is considered low.
Majority of work will be conducted within the vehicle.
This position may require occasional lifting of mobility devices or client assistance as necessary.
