Job Summary
Perform repairs and overhauls large diesel engines on heavy duty dump trucks, motor graders and road construction equipment; and performs other related duties.

NOTE: Must have own full supply of tools, including sockets, box wrenches, open ends and other necessary small tools.

Essential Duties
Inspects, maintains, repairs and overhauls large diesel engines on heavy duty dump trucks, motor graders and road construction equipment.

Repairs equipment including, engines, transmissions, brakes, power steering, hydraulics, engine emission systems, electrical work including diagnosing and repairing electrical system problems, repairing and rebuilding starters, alternators and generators and any other engine related parts.

Repairs or replaces components on heavy truck suspension.

Performs preventative maintenance.

Services and repairs gas and diesel pick-up trucks, staff autos and small equipment such as lawn mowers, air compressors and water pumps.

Makes service calls to repair trucks and construction equipment in the field.

Performs air conditioning repair

Conducts road tests on equipment.

Performs welding, brazing or cutting, and other equipment shop work.

Makes repairs to the asphalt plant with the assistance of the plant foreman.

Minimum Qualifications Required
Education and Experience:

Graduation from an accredited technical college in auto or diesel mechanics, plus three years of garage
mechanic experience working on large diesel engines; or any equivalent combination of education, training
and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.

Licenses and Certification:

Valid Class “A” Wisconsin Commercial Driver’s License (may need hazardous endorsement within 6
months.
Certification as a diesel mechanic preferred
Vehicle air conditioning certification a plus

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of the methods, tools and materials used in the repair of automotive, construction and
maintenance equipment.

Knowledge of operation of gasoline and diesel engines.

Ability to work with multiple OEM diagnostic software.

Ability to understand repair and specification manuals.

Ability to use proper methods, tools and equipment in the repair of automotive, construction and
maintenance equipment.

Ability to work in all weather conditions.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff.

Ability to work the required hours of the position.

Ability to assist in snow removal when needed.
