Chippewa County is seeking a candidate for a Patrol Sergeant position within the Sheriff’s Department, Field Services Division. The job duties of the Patrol Sergeant include but are not limited to acting as a first line management supervisor in directing law enforcement activities and personnel in the Field Services Division of the Office of the Sheriff. These activities include, without limitation, detecting and preventing potential criminal activity through residential and commercial building patrols; investigating complaints of potential criminal activity; enforcing traffic laws for the purpose of reducing property damage, personal injury, or death resulting from traffic crashes; and maintaining good public relations in order to promote community, government and policy partnerships to address the cause of crime, fear of crime and other community issues.

The Patrol Sergeant is a first line management supervisor who acts under the direct supervision of the Field Services Lieutenant. The Patrol Sergeant is responsible for supervising and directing the performance of the patrol deputies and others under his or her command and for timely completing all administrative tasks associated with his or her position. The Patrol Sergeant also assists the Field Services Lieutenant in the discharge of his or her duties as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications: An Associate Degree in Police Science or Criminal Justice with (3) three years of Law Enforcement patrol experience for Chippewa County – OR – Associate Degree in Police Science or Criminal Justice with five (5) years of Law Enforcement experience as a patrol officer from an outside agency is required. Law Enforcement Standards Board Certified, certifiable, or possess an out of state certification at time of hire (must complete WI Certification upon hire). A valid driver’s license required. Starting Wage: $30.36 – $32.79 per hour depending on qualifications plus an excellent fringe benefit package. Maximum Wage: $40.99 per hour.
