Job Summary
The Server Technician will configure, maintain, upgrade and manage our server hardware/software environment along with developing and maintaining Brown Counties cloud footprint. Resourcefulness is a necessary skill in this role. You should be able to diagnose and resolve problems quickly. You should also have the patience to communicate with a variety of interdisciplinary teams and users.

Your goal will be to ensure that our technology infrastructure runs smoothly and efficiently.

Essential Duties
Monitor cloud and server infrastructure to identify areas of
improvement, reliability, cost savings, etc.
Maintain and implement monitoring and alerting to help manage and ensure Service Level Agreements.

Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation, work off-hours, work extended hours

Automating our operational processes as needed, with accuracy and in compliance with our Cyber Security standards.

Performing software upgrades, kernel patching, and errata patches.

Ability to work independently with direct supervision and training to perform day-to-day operations.

Participates in self-study; on the job and formal training as needed.

May be requested to assist with afterhours IT support.

May participate as a project team member.

Completes operational documentation such as: work order detail, time reporting, project updates, problem logs, equipment transaction forms and other required documentation. Maintains and updates technical documentation for systems.

Complies with laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards, and may make recommendations for improvement.

Assists Information Technology staff as directed to meet Brown County goals.

Secondary responsibilities will include but are not limited to assisting with issues with networking, assisting with application support, providing level 1 or 2 support coverage, etc.

Communicates to the affected customer(s) work order and project status, and ensures work is followed through to completion.

Implements and supports systems under the direction of more senior staff.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Education and Experience:

Associate degree in computers, computer science, electronics or another related field preferred. Working knowledge of servers, databases, storage, and cloud computing.

Or any equivalent combination of education, skills, and experience

Licenses and Certification:

Valid Driver’s License required.

Fingerprint/background clearance required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Proven experience as a System Administrator, Network Administrator or similar role.
Experience with databases, networks (LAN, WAN) and patch management.
Knowledge of system security (e.g. intrusion detection systems) and data backup/recovery.
Ability to create scripts in Python, Perl or other language.
Familiarity with various operating systems and platforms.
Resourcefulness and problem-solving aptitude.
Excellent communication skills.
Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Lifting 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

Intermittent standing, walking and sitting; occasional driving.

Using hand(s)/feet for repetitive single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling, and operating controls.

Occasional bending, twisting, squatting and reaching.

Distinguishing sounds at various frequencies and volumes.

Distinguishing people or objects at varied distances under a variety of light conditions.
