Sanitation & Zoning Specialist

Do you have knowledge of land zoning ordinances and have an interest in their enforcement? If so, Monroe County’s Sanitation & Zoning Department might have the job for you. We’re hiring for a full-time Sanitation & Zoning Specialist. Successful candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree in soil science, natural resources management, land use planning, geography, or another closely related field. One year of land use/zoning or sanitary ordinance enforcement related experience is desired. CST certification and POWTS inspector’s license must be obtained within first year of employment. A valid Wisconsin driver’s license is required.

Our Sanitation & Zoning Specialist provides uniform enforcement of land use and private septic system regulations. This includes the issuance and inspection of applicable administrative permits, conditional use permits, and variances; monitoring compliance and investigating alleged violations of the Land Zoning, Shoreland, FloodPlain, and Sanitation Utilities ordinances. This position is responsible for educating, explaining, and providing technical assistance to customers and stakeholders on code and ordinance requirements.

Starting salary for this position is $25.09 hourly. Monroe County offers a robust benefits package to include health, dental, term life, WRS, and more.
