League of Wisconsin Municipalities Witynski Named 2022 WCA Friend of County Government

The Wisconsin Counties Association has named League of Wisconsin Municipalities Deputy Executive Director Curt Witynski as their 2022 WCA Friend of County Government.

The award is the highest honor given by the Association to an individual who has performed outstanding service to county government in their official capacity. Witynski was honored on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at the WCA Annual Conference in Sauk County.

“Curt’s incredible dedication to local governments here in Wisconsin and his deep understanding of the issues and policies that impact the direction of our state will be felt for generations to come,” said WCA President & CEO Mark D. O’Connell. “We are so proud to recognize him for his service, his leadership and his friendship.”

Curt joined the League staff as assistant legal counsel in 1987.  Before becoming deputy executive director, Curt served as the League’s legal counsel for eight years.

He managed the League’s lobbying program, representing the League before the Legislature, the Governor’s office, and state agencies. He has given presentations and written numerous articles on many aspects of municipal law.  He is also the co-author of several guidebooks for local officials published by the League.

“Without a doubt, we are all stronger when we are working together,” said O’Connell. “Curt’s steadfast presence in the hallways of the Capitol and on the doorsteps of local governments in every corner of our state has left a strong imprint. We are grateful to him for his work and are proud to present him with this award.”
