POSITION SUMMARY:
The Northern Regional Center for Children & Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN), within the Marathon County Health Department, is seeking parents/primary caregivers of children with disabilities who want to use their knowledge, experience, and strengths to improve the lives of families in our 15-county service area.

Note: These positions are not required to be in Marathon County.

These positions are a unique opportunity for parents to use their experiences to work on short-term projects this fall and provide feedback on other aspects of programming. Several Parent Advisors will be hired throughout the region for short term opportunities through the end of 2022. Some will engage in a clearly identified projects that address needed support for families.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Personal experience as a parent or primary caregiver of a child with a disability/ special health care needs
A High School Diploma or equivalent is required
Fluency in Hmong, Spanish, and/or American Sign Language desired
Necessary special qualifications: If assisting with events, a driver’s license and a driving record that meets County standards is required or the ability to obtain reliable transportation is required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
Assist with the development of content and materials produced by the Northern Regional Center for families.
Attend 3 regional meetings between September-December to provide input with other parents/caregivers on Northern Regional Center programs and services.
Support the planning of regional events for families including providing input beforehand, promoting the events, and assisting at the events.
Provide feedback on information produced by the Northern Regional Center including social media posts, website content, and other materials prepared for families.
Explore an issue that effects families of children with disabilities and develop resources to address this.
Promote the events of the Northern Regional Center through a media outreach plan
Identify new resources and follow up on sharing them to interested parties in multiple formats.
Perform related work, including documentation of work performed, as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Knowledge of resources and supports for families with children with special health care needs/disabilities.
Knowledge of experiences and challenges of families navigating services and systems
Ability to identify service gaps and opportunities and convey information to partners
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with parents, community partners, and the public
Ability to communicate effectively in person and over the phone, tailoring information for diverse customers
Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion
Ability to work independently with remote supervision including using technology and software to achieve outcomes
Contributes to a positive work culture that fosters excellent customer service and teamwork.

COMPENSATION:
$18.00-$20.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and tasks. No employee benefits are provided for these temporary positions.
