Job Summary
The Park Ranger will supervise daily operations, customer service, rule enforcement, and maintenance of the assigned parks. The ideal candidate will be skilled in the maintenance and operation of parks, natural resource management, rule enforcement, public programming, and grounds and turf care. The candidate must possess strong communication skills, the ability to safely operate heavy equipment, ability to perform building and equipment maintenance as well as provide exceptional customer service. The Park System has an annual attendance of nearly 1 million visitors.
*Recommends and implements solutions to provide safe, clean and aesthetically pleasing park facilities.

This position will assist at all park areas as directed by supervisor.

Essential Duties
Provide exemplary customer service to all customers and actively participate in maintaining a positive customer service environment for internal and external relations.

Possess the ability to resolve conflict and enforce violations to extend allowable per Brown County Code.

Ability to issue verbal and written warnings and/or citations to visitors.

Good organization skills.

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills when working with co-workers and customers.

Implements Department and County goals, objectives, and policies; maintains performance standards.

Ensures smooth day-to-day maintenance, operations and supervise/direct the work of seasonal staff at the assigned park areas.

Performs preventative maintenance, troubleshoots and makes repairs on motorized equipment, machinery, buildings/HVAC systems and other park facilities.

Operates trucks, tractors, mowers, chainsaws, snow removal equipment, skid steers, snow grooming equipment, firefighting equipment and other park related equipment.

Prepares monthly and special reports as required.

Develop and monitor LTE/Seasonal staff schedules and duties.
Minimum Qualifications Required
Education and Experience:
Associates degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in, Forestry, Biology or Natural Resource Management, Environmental Education or equivalent experience related to this job description.

Licenses or Certifications:
Must possess, or be able to possess a Wisconsin Commercial Driver’s License within 1 year of employment;

CPR and 1st aid certification or the ability to obtain

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ideal candidate will be a quick and independent learner, and able to adapt to new tasks

Knowledge of principles, techniques and practices related to public recreation and parks maintenance during summer and winter

Knowledge and past experience with conducting environmental education

Knowledge of basic mechanical operations

Knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry and electrical operations (construction)

Knowledge of equipment used in park operations

Ability to operate all mechanical equipment, lighting systems, plumbing systems, irrigation/water systems, hand tools, tractors, UTVs, snowmobiles, all types of vehicles, grass cutting equipment and backhoes.

Ability to perform park inspections, including grounds, buildings and equipment to ensure compliance with established standards, regulations and laws

Must have exceptionally strong customer service and communication skills

Ability to speak in public regarding a variety of program topics

Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work place

Knowledge of chemicals, pesticides, herbicides and cleaning products

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, other departments, and the general public

Ability to work evenings and weekends as required
