POSITION SUMMARY:
This position provides nutrition education and counseling for individuals and groups participating in a variety of public health type programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Certifies, or enrolls participants on the WIC program after establishing eligibility based on their nutritional/health needs assessment; provides nutrition and breastfeeding education; refers to other programs for additional resources.
• Maintains electronic client records/documentation.
• Analyzes and provides appropriate food packages to clients including the need for special formulas and medically prescribed nutritionals for the wellbeing of the client.
• Collaborates with various agencies and community members to implement the Healthier Together Pierce & St. Croix Counties Community Health Improvement Plan.
• Provides ongoing prenatal nutrition, breastfeeding and health education to women with high risk pregnancies.
• Trains and reviews work from other staff. Coaches and/or counsels staff to ensure quality service standards are maintained.
• Counsels and updates local WIC staff on local, state and federal policy updates.
• Develops educational materials, programs or events to promote good health and wellness.
• Researches, reviews and interprets nutritional information to share with staff, clients, and community members. Provides community nutrition services via group or individual education.
• Prepares and submits grant proposals. Completes contract materials as received. Manages grant requirements.
• Supervises and precepts students in public health nutrition and nursing students from various colleges/universities.
• Assists the department with data collection to support maintenance of PH accreditation.
• Participates in strategic planning.
• Participates in quality improvement projects and incorporates quality improvement principles.
• Participates in community health needs assessment and improvement planning.
• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition or Dietetics.
• Two years professional work experience in public health, community nutrition/maternal-child health, lactation or nutrition.
• Registered Dietitian with the National Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
• Wisconsin Certified Dietitian required within 3 months of hire.
• Previous WIC program experience preferred.
• Certified Lactation Counselor, Certified Lactation Specialist, or Certified Lactation Educator preferred.
• Must successfully pass criminal and caregiver background check.

Posting Pay Range: $55,557-$74,800
Posting Expected Pay Range: $55,557-$62,254
