Oneida County is accepting applications and seeking to hire a Captain for the Emergency Services Division of the Sheriff’s Office. The Captain of Emergency Services shall assign and direct subordinates, ensuring all policies, rules, regulations, orders, procedures and directives are enforced and implemented. The Captain of Emergency Services shall make independent decisions or recommendations in hiring, promotion, transfer, discipline or discharge of department employees in accordance with Department Policy and Procedures, Oneida County Code, and Wisconsin State Statutes. The Captain of Emergency Services is directly accountable to the Sheriff and Chief Deputy for implementation of all Sheriff’s orders and direction concerning the operation of the Division. The Captain of Emergency Services shall be an employee of the County not under Civil Service and shall be entitled to all the rights, privileges, and benefits that County employees have. The 2021 salary range of pay is $62,008 – $85,039 for “2,080 base hours” per year.

Applicants must be a citizen of the United States; have a valid Wisconsin driver’s license; be in good physical condition; not a convicted felon; a high school graduate or equivalent, two year associate degree or preferred four-year bachelor degree in Emergency Management, Public Administration, Criminal Justice Administration, Business Administration or related field. Preferred five years in a supervisory role in a public safety field. Must be knowledgeable of law enforcement, firefighting, emergency medical services, hazardous material response, volunteer organizations, and two-way radio communications. Must have the ability to comprehend and interpret a variety of documents including Emergency Response Procedures and Plans, Hazardous Material Forms, Emergency Management Planning and Analysis Guides, Facility Response Plans, and any other additional Emergency Management related documents.

Successful applicants may be requested for an oral interview, pre-employment drug screen and medical exam, psychological assessment, and background check.
