Application Requirements & Details of Highway Operations Manager

Primary duties for the Highway Operations Manager include the bidding, purchasing, receiving, inventory tracking and storing of repair parts, construction supplies, equipment, fuel and other items as necessary for County highway operations, while working within the county purchasing policy and under the direction of the Highway Commissioner. Other responsibilities include produce financial reports related to these activities, supervise staff, and management of Highway Safety program.

Qualifications include knowledge of modern storekeeping and requisitioning methods and practices; good knowledge of a wide variety of supplies, materials, tools, equipment and related terminology; ability to accurately check parts, supplies and equipment against specifications; ability to maintain accurate inventory records; ability to make reports on inventory levels as requested; Knowledge of personal computer operations with word processor and spreadsheet software to include Microsoft office and CHEMS; ability to learn specialized software application and programs as required; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and employees; thoroughness. Ability to analyze operations and propose changes to maximize efficiencies and cost savings. Some experience assisting in the operation of a parts room, repair shop and completion of a standard high school course, preferably supplemented by courses in parts room, shop or fleet management from a vocational school; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities Must have a valid Wisconsin Class A, B,C Commercial Driver’s License with endorsement N.

The starting 2021 wage scale for this non-exempt, position is $22.62 – $25.85 per hour based on experience. This position is scheduled Monday through Thursday with a complete benefit package included.
